Variety Show – Tubig: A Generation in Motion
April 2 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm CDTFree
The Variety Show (V-Show) is an annually occurring and highly anticipated event hosted by the UW–Madison Filipinix American Student Organization (FASO), in which we aim to educate, enlighten, and engage individuals of all backgrounds on the vast aspects of Filipino culture.
Our event will include a myriad of dances, presentations, and a headliner performance by Filipina artist, Ruby Ibarra. Ruby is deeply committed to Filipinx issues and social justice and will be performing through the artistic expression of music and spoken word. Audience members will be able to directly interact with her through a Q&A session. Performances from UW–Madison and Midwestern Filipinx student organizations will also be showcased.
The theme of the Variety Show is, “Tubig: A Generation in Motion.” Tubig, or the Tagalog word for “water,” relates to this concept because water is incredibly adaptable and as Filipinx and Filipinx Americans we have had to overcome many obstacles by being versatile and resilient in our endeavors. Water comes in many different forms; in the Philippines, we see how water surrounds us and how it is an essential part of our lives physically. The purpose of this idea in relation to our Variety Show is that our connections and relationships with our communities are our sources of unwavering support and strength.
Through artistic expression, we celebrate what has brought us here today as a culture and prove that our Filipinx spirit is far from gone and that we will continue to represent ourselves going into the future. This V-Show will be a true representation of the Philippines through time and onwards.
